Last May, in a surprise release, Rubén Blades presented his most recent work 'Medoro Madera', an album made with Roberto Delgado's orchestra, with eight songs that pay tribute to Cuban soneros. Here Rubén Blades dresses with his 'alter-ego' Medoro Madera, a Cuban octogenarian who has been appearing sporadically in his albums since 1987. This time the whole album is dedicated to Madera singing mainly songs from the 20s and 30s, backed by Roberto Delgado with an almost ensemble version of his orchestra. Blades explains: "I can produce such an effect by channeling the spirit of the old Cuban soneros, my true inspiration for this work, and doing what in Spanish is known as" impostación. "This voice technique helped me create a color, a power and a different timbre to my natural voice ".

According to the Panamanian, "the photograph of the album is an image of my father and I intertwined to create the character of Medoro Madera who is an alter ego." The music is a tribute to all the soneros, especially to all the soneros who have come from Santiago de Cuba, in manifestation in the form of a group or in the form of a big band with two trumpets, so I hope you like it and make comments about that. "
This production reunites Blades with his compatriot Roberto Delgado and Orquesta. Ignacio "Nacho" Molino and Pablo Governatori were in charge of recording and mixing. Delgado, on the other hand, worked in the production and arrangements, and Daniel Ovie was responsible for the materialization.
